Mineral Makeup (info you should know)

by christina harris

Mineral makeup is made from all natural minerals that come from the earth. Most of them are a combination of serecite, mica, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are natural sun blocking agents and are used in almost every bulk store bought sun block or lotion you can buy.

Most minerals are also water proof so the hold of mineral makeup is usually all day with little or no touch up needed. The minerals used in the makeup are very finely milled into a powder that is micro-fine and will blend well into the skin and look very natural. An outstanding range of colors in the minerals make it possible for mineral makeup manufacturers to offer a vast array of colors.

A virtual rainbow has been made from blush, eye shadows, lipsticks, and foundation in hundreds of shades. It's easy to buy two or three different foundation shades and blend them for a custom color of your own because minerals blend very easily together. Because our cosmetic c grade minerals are so finely milled they won't clog your pores, and if some of them do happen to get into the blood stream, don’t worry, after all they're all natural and they are completely safe for the body.

Many doctors and dermatologists have proclaimed mineral makeup as the skin care makeup because it is so healthy for the skin and does not aggravate acne and it covers blemishes, acne, large pores, and scars very effectively. If you're interested in a safe and natural alternative to chemical, oil and preservative laden makeup, minerals may be something for you to look in to.

Natural Beauty: What Is It Really?

Natural beauty is the ideal many people strive to achieve when they purchase make-up, creams, shampoos and other forms of cosmetics. But what really constitutes natural beauty, and how can it be achieved?

Many consumers, in an attempt to cleanse, tone, moisturize, mattify, shine, colour, enhance and so on, have overloaded their skin and their cabinets with too many needless products. Experts have found that 63 percent of all women complain of having developed 'sensitive skin', and many of these complaints can be traced back to an overcomplicated skin care regimen (Fairley, 2001). In contrast, the needs of human skin are simple. They are cleansing, moisture, nourishment and protection. Skin which suffers from burning, reddening, pimples, rashes and other symptoms similar to these may be caused by or made worse from adverse reactions to the cosmetic products overloading many women's cabinets. Often many of these products claim to alleviate or eliminate the very symptoms they are causing (Begoun, 1991).

When selecting skin care, it is best to choose a product formulated for your skin type. Everyone's skin is individual and varied, but to assist in product selection, and in understanding what your own skin needs, the following skin types have been generalized.

  • Balanced, which is neither oily nor dry, and similar to the skin type of children.
  • Oily
  • Dry
  • Sensitive, which is a condition involving reddening, burning or rashes when a cosmetic is applied.
  • Problem, which is prone to acne and breakouts.
  • Combination, which is most skin, containing oily and dry patches.

Beautiful skin can be obtained by making good choices for your skin, such as using cosmetic products and make-up which are truly natural. Eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruit, water and healthy oils (such as polyunsaturated fats, essential fatty acids found in flax seed oil, olive oil, etc.) all assist in achieving and maintaining healthy skin. Lastly, adequate rest, sleep and exercise also contribute significantly to beautiful skin.

Simple Skin Care Steps:

  • Gentle cleansing - depending on your skin type or preference, choose a natural soap.
  • Toning - use a toner which is alcohol-free, infused with essential oils
  • Daytime moisturizing - light or rich skin moisturizer
  • Nighttime moisturizing - use facial oils formulated with essential oils

Make-up:

Choose make-up which is made with all natural ingredients and colours, regardless of one's age. All faces look fresh and naturally beautiful when colours which reflect the earth's vibrant range of hues are applied. Rainbow-like colours, or deep, dramatic shades cannot be obtained naturally in make-up without synthetically derived colours. These colours rarely look natural, are often trendy and go out of style quickly.

Great looking skin does not mean flawless, masked skin. Rather, lets reconstruct our notions of what constitutes 'beautiful skin' and 'beautiful faces', because perfection does not exist in the natural world, nor does it exist in human beings. Computers, cameras, lighting and other sophisticated technologies create "flawlessness", to create an ideal image no one can attain. Instead, beautiful skin and natural beauty is skin that is free from harmful chemicals, hydrated from within and on the surface, fed with balanced nutrition and wise food choices, and regulated with reasonable exercise. A positive outlook on life and an optimistic perspective also contribute to natural beauty, inside and out.

So You Want To Be A Fashion Model?

Have you ever thought about becoming a fashion model? Do you think you have what it takes for that kind of job? The typical fashion model travels to exotic places, models the latest clothes, fashions, and accessories from top designers, and can even be featured in various magazines, which of course can also then lead to being pursued by manufacturers for you to do product endorsements.
But that is typically not where a fashion model STARTS. Like anything else, a fashion model or teen model usually starts significantly lower on the totem pole while they are gaining visibility with potential clients and top modeling agencies around the world. But if you are willing to “pay your dues”, the rewards can be fabulous from many perspectives, including travel, mingling with celebrities, attending exclusive events, and of course from a financial perspective. Top models can earn upwards of thousands of dollars per day.

Fashion modeling is no longer limited to just the “perfect” people anymore with the great looks, superb hair, and a Barbie-doll figure. Particularly in recent years, the fashion designers have started to realize that by only targeting the “perfect” people, they were ignoring a large portion, indeed a MAJORITY, of the audiences they could potentially target to sell their merchandise, accessories, and fashions.

That being the case, there is also a market for fashion models that almost spans the entire range of types of people; i.e., the petite, the “plus size”, the teen, the “mature”, and yes even the retiree crowd. Think about it, all those types of people have money also, and are willing to spend it if they are aware of the possibilities and availability of their products. And selling their creations and fashions is what they are in business for! To become a successful fashion model today, you no longer need to be limited to the group that is about 5 foot 8 inches tall at 120 pounds with perfect bouncy hair and about 22 years old.

There are many types of modeling jobs available, and virtually any of them would be a good start for someone with the motivation and desire to get into some of the top spots and top agencies. There is catalog modeling, runway modeling, showroom modeling, promotional or trade show modeling, television modeling, as well as print modeling like in newspapers or magazines.

Make no mistake about it, it is a tough market and there will likely be some long hours involved. But for those with the motivation and desire to succeed in this very competitive industry, the rewards can far outweigh the negatives.

Modelling - pay and conditions.

by tania

Very few models make it to the top echelons of the modeling world where the big money is made as high fashion magazines and catwalk supermodels. What can you expect to earn in a career in modeling then? Read on to find out.

In reality, most models make a living as self-employed contractors, charging a fee for every assignment they work on. Often they're registered with a modelling agency, which helps find work for them and takes a cut of their payment for each job as a fee. The average fee charged by most agencies is around one-fifth of what the model is paid.

Because modelling is essentially a freelance job, it doesn't offer a great deal of job security and it can be difficult to remain constantly in work. The ideal situation would be to jump directly from one assignment to the next, but models often find themselves with gaps in their diaries. This is where a modelling agency can come in very handy. A professional and experienced agency will do a good job of promoting all of its models and searching for work for them. It can be a stressful and time-consuming task for a model trying to hunt for a job, especially if they're not yet very familiar with the industry and don't have many contacts in the field, and it also requires a great deal of self-confidence and good negotiation skills, so registering with an agency can relieve a lot of the pressure from what can already be a pressured job.

It's crucial to check the terms and conditions of the agency's contract before signing up, though, to understand exactly what they will charge and what the model will have to pay themselves. Models should expect to cover their own travel expenses for auditions and assignments. If they are successful in obtaining the assignment, they can claim back their expenses as part of their fee to the client. Models also normally have to pay for their own training, even if it's organized by the agency. However, the agency may pay up front for the training and expect repayment at a later date once the model is established or completes their first assignment.

For almost every assignment, the client will hold auditions to find the model who's right for them. This means that many models spend much of their time rushing from one audition to the next, often without success. It's therefore important for models to take care of their body and image all the time, even when really busy, so that they look their best for prospective clients. This means creating a strict beauty regime and adhering to it religiously.

Models starting out can expect to earn as low as ВЈ50 per assignment and may need to supplement their income with other work. As they progress, modelling has the potential to earn them ВЈ100 to ВЈ500 or even ВЈ1,000 per assignment.

Career progression in modelling is based on experience of assignments, which helps the model to build up a varied portfolio as a sales pitch for potential clients and agencies as wellas getting their name known. Experience also helps to build a network of contacts it's always easier to get work if you know the right people. As models become more experienced and better known, they can command higher fees and more prestigious jobs.

Modelling is rarely a life-long career. As it's based mainly on image, youth is important and many models find their careers starting to wane from as young as their mid 20s to early 30s. In fact, the prime age for female models is as young as 16 to 18. So, it helps to have a fall-back career for when the modelling work starts to dry up. Some young models get swept up in the glamour and excitement of their first few modelling assignments as teenagers and misguidedly let their education slip, leaving them with nothing to fall back on when their modelling days are over, which could be as young as their mid 20s. By this time it may be more difficult to recover their education and/or vocational training in order to change career.

In fact, for many models, their career in modelling is very short-lived as it takes a great deal of courage, commitment, stamina, self-confidence and resilience to cope with the highly pressured, extremely competitive, unpredictable and often critical environment. It's essential to be mentally tough in order to deal with the rejection that models often face, and to cope with being frequently in and out of work. Many models become disillusioned with the industry and leave after only a few months.

Fashion News - What's Trendy in 2008?

By Michael Rad

A fashion conscious person never misses the fashion trends for the year to come. If you are already reading this article, this means that you are interested in what to wear in 2008. Do you like the fashion of the fifties? Well, you should, because it will come back in 2008 and that entire craze will be in style again. As a matter of fact, this trend of the 50s comeback has already started before 2008, so you are at least a bit familiar with the concept.

First things first: the spring summer fashion for 2008 will contain a lot of interesting models that clearly reminds us of the 50s. Baggy dresses below the knee for day wear or vaporous dresses for evening that will make the fashion in 2008. The trousers will be in fashion as well, and mini trousers may be worn as well. Capri trousers are still in style and may be worn with extra large sweaters. However, there is a trend that will mix styles, so sporty style will mix with the chic and there will be an ethno mix, which will result in some interesting combinations. The urban style will thus be a functional wardrobe with sporty details. This highly unlikely combination that comes as a surprise is like a breathe of fresh air.

The colors that are dominant for the style for 2008's spring and summer are the grey, black, white plus yellow. This color is a problematic color that does not suit with everything, so it must be worn with great care. However, next year, dare to wear yellow and see how it looks. The prints on the dresses or blouses can be floral, but they will become more abstract and even geometric or will totally lack. So uni is back in style. The accessories will match the outfit. The oversized bags are still in style, while the super huge earrings and necklaces will compliment the overall clothing.

The jewels may be made of plastic or more natural materials such as wood or even clay. These can be ethno influenced and create a great effect on the entire apparel, making the body look small and giving an interesting perspective. So, are you ready for spring and the summer of 2008? Get your wardrobe ready for this year's style and buy some great new trendy apparel online or in the stores that you usually visit. Now you know what to hunt for, just go and get them.

Fashion Design Sketches

By Jennifer Bailey

The intense competition in the fashion industry makes it important for any fashion designer to showcase the designs to a larger audience. This can be done by creating fashion sketches and displaying them on the Internet. The sketches give an insight to the fashion fraternity and also to the common audience on the concept behind a particular fashion design. It is a way of communicating the theme to the people associated with the apparel industry. Hence, they are extremely important for any fashion designer.

Fashion sketches are illustrations made by professional artists and designed in a way that they can be easily displayed on the Internet. They portray the true creative genius of the designer. These can be considered a blue print of the final product. The perfection in making sketches is a prerequisite as they serve as the main marketing tool of the fashion professionals. The sketches reflect trends and the value added features of the design. They can also be used to evaluate the various patters used by different designers.

Fashion sketches are important, since they are the preliminary designs that have to be taken to the different apparel manufacturers in the market. The sketches are then used to select the different fabric samples from the wide range on offer.

Computers are increasingly being used for the purpose of making fashion design sketches. Several software are now available that assist the designers in making the drawings. While some still prefer the traditional hand-drawn sketches, others choose to opt for the speed and convenience of computer-aided designing. Hand-drawn sketches can also be fed into the computer with the help of a scanner.

The art of making fashion design sketches is important for creating a niche in the highly competitive fashion industry. Fashion designers can make their presence felt only if their sketches are different and original. Good quality sketches are the only means of establishing a firm foothold in the fashion industry.

Fashion Designers

By Tania Machowska

Each country has its own dedicated team of fashion designers that not only lead the way in that country's trends, but also influence the rest of the world in their style and way of wearing items. The primary areas of fashion influence are America and Europe, and these translate to the rest of the world. Italian, French, British and American designers are amongst the best in the world, and their designs are copied slavishly by many others.

Leading Italian designers include Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Versace, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Moschino, and Missoni. The Italian designers dominate the field of global fashion, but they are joined by French designers, who are almost as important in their influence. French designers include, Chanel, Dior, Jean Paul Gautier, Givenchy, Herm's, Christian Lacroix, Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton, whose names, along with all the other major designers are known throughout the planet, and whose creations adorn the bodies or arms of every celebrity worldwide.

No other creators besides fashion designers attain that level of acknowledgement or fame. Even if you do not know what they have made they are famous merely for influencing the styles of generations and for being the creators of one of the most potent aspects of our time, fashion.

American and British designers, although not as famous as their Italian or French counterparts, still achieve a high level of recognition and celebrity. British designers of note include Burberry, Ted Baker, John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Julien MacDonald, Zandra Rhodes and Mulberry.

Their American equivalents are more renowned, but this may be due to the more widespread influence worldwide of American culture. American designers of importance include, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan (DKNY), Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Abercrombie and Fitch.

These designers bring out new designs and combinations every season, but they are actually working at the time on clothes for seasons a year or two in advance at any one time. These are closely guarded secrets by the fashion industry, which conveys the power that these individuals and their fashion houses have over society. But it's not just clothes that designers have control over, but accessories, luggage, makeup, perfume, underwear and most importantly, shoes.

These can sometimes be even more prominent than clothes, and footwear designers are among the most highly-paid and most sought-after individuals in the world. A pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes is enough to make even the most put-together woman go a bit crazy! He, along with Jimmy Choo and Gina amongst others, are the designers whose creations can be found pounding, or should that be gracing the pavements of countries worldwide, on the feet of all those with the pocket to afford them.

Everyone else just admires them from afar, and has to make do with the high street shoe fashions that are influenced, as high street clothes are, by designers™ styles and designs. The power of the designer is all-encompassing; if they make something fashionable, everyone around the world will be wearing it within a few weeks. Designers know they have this power, and will continue to use it to influence global fashions throughout the eras.

By Amy Wells

The Internet has revolutionized education. Distance and online learning is one of the fastest growing segments of the educational field. If you are thinking of attending fashion school for a fashion merchandising degree or certificate, you may want to consider an online fashion design program. These online programs have evolved and are more comprehensive and sophisticated to meet student needs.

As a fashion merchandising student, you'll learn the nuts and bolts of fashion design and marketing. You'll study the whole cycle of fashion creation, concentrating primarily on the manufacturing, buying, selling, and promotion of items to retail and other outlets. You'll also learn about the actual textiles that create fabrics, and their manufacture.

There are many advantages to studying fashion merchandising online. You will have a more flexible schedule, and can study around your job, or other responsibilities. A great way to get even more prepared for working in the field is to take a fashion-related job while you are attending school online. This will help you get real world fashion experience that can enrich your online education, and help qualify you for your fashion merchandising career once you graduate.

There are a number of schools that offer online programs. Many respectable and respected fashion campuses also offer an online component. It’s better to enroll in an online program that is well-known and has a presence in the fashion industry. Many schools offer a two year associates degree or a certificate, and some schools offer a four year bachelor degree. Whatever degree program you choose, you want to make sure that your online program has the appropriate accreditation, so that when you graduate, your achievement has merit in the industry, and is recognizable.

Another factor to consider is the job placement assistance offered after you graduate. Most schools will have statistics regarding the number of graduates working the fashion merchandising industry. Before you enroll, you should review the school's job assistance program, and make sure it is comprehensive as possible.

A fashion merchandising career is one of the most flexible and varied in the fashion industry. Once you have achieved your diploma or certification, there are a wide variety of positions available. You could work in retail as store manager, or store owner. You could also work as a fashion buyer, merchandiser, fashion event planner, and that is just a small number of the variety of positions available.

If you live too far away to attend an on campus fashion school, or need more flexibility with your schedule, an online fashion merchandising program may be a good fit for you. More and more schools are catering to the needs of their students by offering online degree and certificate studies, and there are now a number to choose from. Your fashion career could be just a few mouse clicks away.

Using Color Contacts As Fashion Accessories

Color contact lenses are the latest trend in fashion. These hot fashion accessories make your eyes look stunning. They completely transform your look and there are so many to choose from. The variety of colors available not only change your eye color, these fashion accessories even have designs on them for theme and costume parties, such as for Halloween or Valentine’s Day, etc.

These color contact lenses are simply cosmetic accessories, and not for medical purposes, and so should be used only temporarily, for a short period of time. Most of the people using color contact lenses do not have a vision problem, and use them only as a fashion accessory. People with vision problem, too, can have color contacts made, based on their prescription, and should consult their ophthalmologist beforehand.

The Latest Fashion Trend

If you want to be the center of attention in a gathering or a party, color contact lenses are the answer. Color contact lenses provide you with the versatility to change your eye color to any color you want – instantly, and are great fun.

These fashion accessories are available from a number of sources including beauty salons, some doctors, and novelty stores - which normally would stock Halloween contact lenses. You can have a larger selection of color contact lenses from online retailers, and these could be less expensive than buying from other sources.

There are two main types of color contact lenses, just as there are for normal contacts. They are the disposable types, and the ones for extended wear. The extended wear contact lenses can be used up to a year, and sometimes even longer, depending on your usage. Disposable contact lenses are worn for shorter periods – for about a week or so. Such contact lenses come, more or less, in packs of six pairs.

Therefore, whether you buy disposables or extended wear color contact lenses as an accessory for fashion, depends on your usage. If you wish to have green eyes more often, it would probably be better to go for extended wear lenses. If on the other hand, your color contact lenses are for use on Halloween Day only, or on Valentine’s Day, it is advisable to go for disposable types. Today, most doctors recommend disposable contact lenses even in the prescription category, and it is equally applicable for contact lenses for cosmetic purposes.

Colors In Contact Lenses

Blue is the most popular in color contact lenses. Many people, born with eyes of different colors, prefer blue eyes, and some people with blue eyes wish theirs were of a brighter hue. You can have blue contacts in a variety of hues, up to a true vivid blue. Green is another color sought by those looking for color contacts as fashion accessories. Green, whether jade green or emerald green, exudes sexuality, and is appropriate for those wishing to bring out their wild side!

People with dark eyes and medium to dark skin can create a mysterious look with amethyst color contact lenses. Natural amethyst, or purple, color eyes are very rare, and with your contact lenses in purple color, you will be noticed.

There is another way of being noticed without changing the natural color of your eyes. It is by using contact lenses with a ‘definition ring.’ These are clear lenses with a dark ring that outlines the natural color of your eyes, adding depth to them and makes your eyes appear large. One other type of color contact lenses have an illuminating effect that lend sparkle to your eyes, exuding with life and happiness. These are a great way of drawing attention to your eyes.

Also popular for cosmetic uses are a variety of contact lenses used on particular occasions. Valentine’s Day color contact lenses come in a variety of different colors with hearts in various shapes and styles painted on them. For Halloween too, there is an endless variety to select from creating great effects, such as cat eye, ice fire, red hot, black, red and white spiral, wolf, and many others.

Safe Use Of Color Contact Lenses

As this particular fashion accessory comes in touch with your eyes – a delicate organ – every time you use it, care needs to be taken each and every time. There are ways of using color contacts so that they do not give you any problem. The two main reasons why color contact lenses used as fashion accessories may cause problems to your eyes are:

Buying color contact lenses that are of inferior quality, and without the doctor’s prescription.
Not taking good care of your color contact lenses.

You may normally be buying your fashion accessories, such as jewelry, from beauty salons, and at times from the flea market. Buying color contacts from such places could be dangerous, as most paints are toxic. You need to buy your color contact lenses from places where they are properly manufactured. Without a doctor’s prescription, most color contact lenses do not meet the basic requirements avoiding direct contact between the paint and the sensitive surface of your eyes.

The other safety rules you need to follow are:

  • Even if you do not need vision correction contacts, it is best to obtain a doctor’s prescription to select the best lenses there are.

  • Buying color contacts may be less expensive online, still buy from a reputable online retailer.
As a fashion accessory, color contact lenses need to be worn for shorter periods. Do not wear such contacts for more than 8 to 9 hours, as most block the flow of oxygen to your eyes, which could cause problem.

  • Though certain color contacts come with the FDA approval to wear continuously for 7 days at a stretch, it is always advisable not to risk eye health, even with the best of color contacts available.

  • Always remove your color contacts while swimming. Other than the chance of losing your lens in water, there is every chance of water creating a condition favorable to bacteria growth.
If bought from a reputed source, and used safely, your color contact lenses will make a great fashion accessory.

3 Of The Most Critical Fashion Accessories That Will Complete Any Wardrobe

Gorgeous dress? Check. Matching shoes? Check. Hair done and make up completed? Check and check. Despite the fact that you have all the essential ingredients to an outstanding outfit, there is still one extremely important thing that is missing.

Any outfit can be enhanced greatly with the right fashion accessory. The outfit can be a success or failure based on the right fashion accessory. Additionally, locating the appropriate accessory can turn a bland outfit to one that is very complimentary in a fashion sense and solely your own.

Pearls

A fashion accessory that has been a timeless classic for many decades has been pearls. Pearls have the ability to add a touch of elegance to an outfit. Pearls also have the ability to take a simple casual outfit such as a t-shirt and jeans and turn them into a little more glamorous type of outfit.

Pearls are ideally used as a bracelet, around the neck, as earrings, and even as a belt or pin. Nevertheless, pearls do not have to just come in the color white. To better highlight your outfit you can select other types of colors. Some prominent colors of pearls are blue, pink, black, and yellow.

Diamonds

An additional fashion accessory would be that of diamonds. For those people with less financial resources, Rhinestones can be used as a great substitute. Diamonds have the ability to add some sparkle to just about any outfit. They also have the reputation of being a girls best friend. They will give your mood a lift and add to your beauty in any outfit.

Wood

Not considered by many as a fashion accessory, wood has the capability to add some flare to an outfit. If you want to add a bohemian tone to any outfit, a wooden cuff would be in order. Additionally, some other fashion accessories are those of wooden bead necklaces, belts, and bracelets.

Some additional complimenting accessories you would do well to add to your repertory would be colorful bright beads. To add a great degree of flare to just about any outfit would be to use long beaded necklaces. Investing in bright jewelry that is incorporated into bracelets, earrings, as well as necklaces are an excellent fashion accessory idea. When to comes to fashion accessories, the more unique it is the better.

Your Image - Glasses - Tool or Fashion Accessory

As an Image Consultant with over 30 years experience, I caution clients not to think of glasses as a functional item, but as a fashion accessory. If eyes are the windows to the soul, glasses are the frame that announces to others everything about who you are. When we speak to others, we look directly into their eyes. Even when we pass strangers on the street, we glance at their faces, and above all, at their eyes.

In my Total-Image Workshops, I very often steer my clients away from silver or gold frames, because they can easily appear “clinical” looking. Nevertheless, this is a popular choice for eyewear because most people assume wrongly that their glasses will not be noticed as much in these nearly “colorless” metals. Wrong. If you prefer metal frames, consider pewter ones or very thin black frames. They look less clinical.

A powerful Image makes a powerful statement about what others can expect from you. To make that powerful statement, I recommend frames in a bold color. This can be is a great branding tool. Many years ago I entered a room filled with 300 businesswomen. One woman stood out above them all. She was well dressed and elegant, but so were many others. However, she wore “lipstick red” glasses, and they branded her as the most dynamic and memorable woman in the room.

Your face shape and your eye and hair color can be considerations when choosing frames for your eyewear. For example, you can choose frames in a color that will make blue eyes look bluer, green eyes look greener, etc. Or you can go another route. Frames that get your red (or black, etc.) hair noticed more.

In a nutshell, here are suggestions for choosing frames based on eye color. To make blue eyes look bluer, wear burgundy, rust, orange, or red frames. Wear purple frames (or red-family colors) to make hazel or green eyes look greener. With brown eyes, you make them look darker with pale frames, and they will look more golden with purple frames. Brown eyes look better with colors that make a nice contrast as opposed to tortoise frames, for example.

What about choosing frames based on hair color? If you want your blonde hair to be noticed more, wear black frames. But if you are a green-eyed blonde, you might want to choose dark purple frames. That way, the dark color is a good contrast for the hair, and the purple will make the eyes look greener.

For red hair, wear colors in the blue green family. Colors like teal, cobalt, emerald green, or bottle green. Don’t choose frames that “match” your hair color, like rust or tortoise frames. For brown hair, purple sets it off nicely and can bring out golden highlights, but you can also wear other “fashion” colors such as red, green, or blue.

If you have gleaming jet black hair, consider white frames, but only if you have a high-fashion look in general. Black goes with every color, so you have lots of options. For a very dramatic look, which your hair will support, try red frames. People with partly grey hair should avoid silver frames, because they will only accent the grey; and gold frames will clash with their hair color. Stick to colors that are clear and bright, including red and blue. Black frames also look great with grey hair.

Thin frames are better for most people. Thick plastic frames easily look severe, especially black ones. When it comes to choosing shapes for glasses, you must consider the shape of your face. In general, however, exaggerated shapes should be avoided—oversized glasses and ones that are very round, for example. The best shape for most people is a “square round” frame. That is, it is not too squared off at the edges nor so rounded that it ceases to look chic.

Obviously, if you have a square face, avoid frames that have an overall square appearance, and with a round face, you will want to resist ovals or round shapes. Thin faces do not necessarily look better in extra-wide frames. For this face shape, the best frame is a square-round shape that leans more toward round or oval, and that is just slightly wider than average.
Have fun with your glasses and wear them proudly. If you choose attractive frames, they can even be an asset or a part of your “signature look.”

How to Use Eye Shadow Like the Stars

Most people feel they have some basic flaws with their appearance, and the truth is that the stars are no exception. Beauties like Angelina Jolie and Beyonce Knowles make no secret of their use of various make-up styles to enhance their appearance, and both of these ladies make splendid use of eye shadow. Eye shadow is designed to attract attention to a persons eyes (yes, male movie stars use it too!) and at the same time enhances the appearance of the eyes by detracting attention from or covering up minor flaws.

Here are some tips on how to apply eye shadow in order that it fixes some of the flaws you may believe are there. To maximize the effect of your eye shadow, you will want to make sure that people are aware that you have it on. Some beauty experts suggest priming your eyes before applying the shadow. The eye lids are a lighter shade than the skin on the rest of the face, due mainly to their lessened exposure to light overt the course of a lifetime. A layer of bone shadow over your lids will even up the coloring with the rest of the face, and any color you apply on top of that will tend to stand out.

Next, experiment with several shades before you decide on the right one for you. A bronze colored eye shadow works for most eyes, and other shades will depend on the color of your own eyes. Blue eyes, for example, will be best complemented with a deeper shade of blue (this will make your own eye color pop out and look extra blue), taupe, violet, or gray. Lighter shades and contrasts work great for brown eyes, while green eyes are bedazzling with the similar shades that are slightly deeper. Don't be afraid to try a funky look with your eye shadow. Silvery, sparkly colors can look great and will have an undeniably exotic appeal. Try to match your scheme with your eye color or outfit, and make sure you get some good feedback before trying it out in public.

Finally, there are several techniques that can be used in order to correct the minor flaws you may see in the appearance of your eyes. If you think your eyes are too far apart, you can make them appear closer together by emphasizing the inner corner of your eye. Put more shadow on this area and blend it outwards towards the rest of the eye. Eyes that are too close together can gain the impression of distance by darkening the outer edges of your eye and keeping the inner corners light.

Again, make sure to blend the colors so that the emphasis is not apparent.

If you want your eyes to look bigger, use a lighter color of eye shadow.

Eye shadow is a great way to change your appearance with a multi-use product that does not cost too much and whose application can be mastered by most individuals. Keep you eyes noticeable, and you will be noticed.

The Power of Beauty

by: Sher Matsen

Have you ever wondered why women are so concerned about how they look? Why they aim to look like the beautiful women they see on the television and in magazines? That’s because beauty is power!

Even way back into ancient times women were concerned about their looks. Think of Cleopatra or Nefertiti who were beautiful women of their times.

The cosmetic industry is well aware of this and that women will go to great lengths to look beautiful. That’s why the cosmetic industry is a multi billion dollar industry.

When you think of beauty you think of what you see on the outside. But beauty is more than skin deep. And beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder! What one may find beautiful another may not. Even though there is no such thing as a definition for universal beauty all women know how to use their beauty to their advantage.

Men fall for this manipulation constantly. In fact they seldom know they’ve been snared into the web with a woman’s beauty. Of course the know when exterior beauty is mesmerizing them but it’s the internal beauty that they have not idea is working. That pouty mouth, those sparkling eyes, that gentle laugh. The power play of the boardroom and the bedroom share many similarities.

It’s a proven fact men are unable to release themselves from the beauty of women. A quick look, a wink, a big inviting smile, a relaxed posture are all indications that a man has succumbed to beauty. Studies have shown even the smartest men go stupid when entranced by the beauty of a woman.

Remember Sophia Loren, Jane Collins, or Jaqueline Bisset. Think about Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Madona, Marilyn Monroe. There beauty had an instant effect on the male population. Not only their exterior beauty but the deeper inner beauty of confidence and mystique that surrounded them.

These women were all show stoppers without even trying. In fact when asked they felt their features were flawed, but men didn’t see it that way. And yet each of these women were totally different in looks and personality. But each brought a certain group of men to their feet. Each had the ability to take the smartest man and turn him into a walking talking zombie stuttering, and staring.

Remember a beautiful woman is more than the exterior shell. Beauty is the whole woman. Personality, charm charisma, seductive sexuality, a smile, or a stance. There are many elements to a womens beauty than capture a mans attention and lock him into a world of bliss.

There is no cure for the poor male population, no pill to pop, no treatment to make them free of the power of a beautiful women. There are no magic bullets to stop the bite of beauty from turning the male population into a drooling idiot or a walking talking zombie. And until there is women will continue to use their beauty as a weapon on the opposite sex. Sorry guys!

Sedu Hairstyles - Why the Sedu hair straightener is the latest "must have" beauty accessory!

by: Caroline Smith

Sedu hairstyles are the latest trend among women wanting to emulate the straight hairstyles of their favorite celebrities and the Sedu hair iron is their weapon of choice in the battle to combat curly, wavy or just plain rebellious hair. This revolutionary hair straightener is all the rage among top hair stylists, and its unique design makes it the perfect tool for straightening all types of hair. The surge of interest in this flat iron has been fueled by the current popularity of Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston hairstyles, as well as the straight hair styles sported by the likes of Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson.

The Sedu hair straightener is designed to be easy and pleasant to use, with no pulling or snagging. It uses special ceramic tourmaline plates that generate a high level of negative ions. Not only does the Sedu hair iron halve the time it takes to straighten hair, compared to regular straighteners, but it's claimed it leaves hair up to three times as smooth and silky too. So you can achieve a stunning new look and save time! Sedu hairstyles can be created on any length of hair, including short haircuts. This flat iron has different temperature settings ranging from 120C - 200C, depending on your hair type. A high heat helps straighten thick or coarse hair faster, whereas a lower setting is ideal for fine or dry hair types.

Loads of sleek and stylish Sedu hairstyles can be created, and it's lots of fun to try out different looks, such as flipping the ends out for a smart and sexy appearance, or turning them under to frame your face, for an elegant look. The Sedu hair straightener is designed to be convenient and simple to use on a daily basis, and gives women the power to transform their appearance in a matter of minutes. There are loads of pictures of Sedu hairstyles and tips on how to give yourself a new image, in magazines and on the internet, so you can achieve that perfect style without the need to visit an expensive stylist!

Sedu Beauty Tips: Step-By-Step

by Pinkes Johnes

The Sedu hair straightening method is done with a Sedu straightening iron, which has ceramic plates an inch to an inch and a half wide.
There are thicker plates to be used with longer-length hair and there are thinner ceramic plates to use with shorter hair. Quite a bit of information regarding this can be found on the Internet.
Imagine straightening your hair without ruining it with harmful chemicals or without it snagging or the ends breaking off. The Sedu hair straightener has four different heat settings which help you straighten your hair within only about 15 to 20 minutes.

Furthermore, if you don’t know if you want straight hair for the rest of your life the Sedu straightener can help you see what you would look like with straight hair before making a commitment to having your hair permanently chemically treated in a salon, or even at home.
If you choose to have your hair permanently straightened, you can do that too but keep in mind that you should do a strand test to make sure your hair can handle the straightening chemicals. That would be done by either you or your hair stylist.
Then you would have to put on a protective cream in order to shield your hair from the chemicals being used, and afterwards add a relaxant cream. You would not have to redo your hair if you use a chemical treatment, but the steps to having it done (or doing it yourself) are more extensive, and it is riskier than just using a Sedu straightener.
The Sedu Ceramic Hair Straightener can create more temporary styles and you can have a new style every single day if you want. Some days you could add a little curl to it and other days you can have it completely straight and it would not remain permanently.

You can also apply a variety of different styles after receiving a chemical hair straightening treatment, but again, it is more risky when you attempt to use harmful chemicals in your hair. There are easy steps to apply when attempting to apply a Sedu Ceramic hair straightening style.

Those steps are as follows: St art out with clean, wet, hair Apply a small amount of styling product such as mousse or gel to your hair Dry your hair, combing downward for approximately 15 minutes Divide your hair into sections and then begin straightening your hair Style your hair according to your favorite Sedu Styling technique Many of these looks are modeled after Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson and other great celebrities.

Free photos of these celebrities are posted online as well. You can take a look at these photos to use as models for your next Sedu hairstyle. For more information go to Sedu Hairstyles website at: Sedu Hairstyles

Restore a Youthful Face in 6 Easy Steps: The Natural Way

Author: Ismael D. Tabije

Rejuvenation of the face and throat is principally dependent on your success in developing the muscles underneath, and should support the skin and other covering tissue. If the supporting muscles are weak, loose and shrunken, a youthful appearance is impossible no matter how brilliant the complexion may be. And any artificial coloring only emphasizes any “saggy” indications of age. This is written for both sexes, and in it I shall briefly describe the methods I practice for the improvement of the skin covering the face and throat, also the underlying supporting muscles. Got sagging face? How can sagging face muscles be “toned up” and strengthened? And how can hollows be filled up? Muscular activity as in exercise is the secret.

The same methods you practice when you are developing or “building up” your arms, legs, or any other part of your body. For all muscles, when exercised, will grow and when they are not will shrink, thus losing their strength and elasticity. Then the marks that we know as the indications of advancing age will begin to appear. The skin, like any other piece of leather, is improved by friction. And the very best instruments for polishing it up are the dry palms and fingers. Also this friction process will remove the fine superficial lines, which start to appear as we age and when the texture of the skin is therefore not as fine as it was previously. But don’t do it too vigorously whether massaging or creating friction. If you do, you will probably chafe the skin, or by too vigorously massaging the muscles of the face may make them sore. I will now describe the practices by which my facial rejuvenation has been accomplished.

FRICTION OF THE FACE AND THROAT – The very best and least expensive method of whitening the throat is by friction with the dry palms of the hands and fingers. It is well also to whiten the sides and bridge of the nose by the same method.

MASSAGE OF THE FACE MUSCLES – The cheeks are supported by eight muscles – four on each side. They are attached to the cheekbones, immediately below the eyes. From that point they descend and become attached to the strong muscle surrounding the mouth and still lower down are again attached to the wide band-like muscles of the jaws. You can contract these supporting cheek muscles at will, this action forming a bunch on the cheekbones, under the eyes.

In youth these muscles should support the tissue and skin overlying them, giving to the cheeks the full smooth appearance characteristic of youth. But as years advance, if they are not exercised, like any other muscle, they will shrink, lose their strength, size and elasticity. For these deep wrinkles, wasted chin and sunken cheeks there is only one cure and that is to strengthen and increase the size of those supporting muscles. Contracting or bunching up the cheek muscles can accomplish this. Then press firmly with the palm of the hand upon the cheek you want to start with. Rub those bunched muscles firmly, deliberately and well towards the temples or corners of the eyes.

THE MOUTH –An exercise I practice for strengthening the “sphincter,” or muscle encircling the mouth: I insert my little lingers in my mouth then I alternately pull and relax. This exercise will speedily strengthen the encircling mouth muscles and the firm mouth, which would result to a youthful mouth. This exercise will not stretch and enlarge the mouth but will remove droopiness or sagginess.

THE CHIN MUSCLES – In connection with the mouth exercise you should also develop the cushion muscles of the chin. The remedy is the persistent rubbing of the point of the chin.

THE TEMPLES – The supporting muscles of the temples usually sink and “the sunken temples of age” appear with age. Persistent rubbing of these temple muscles will remedy this trouble. And frequent friction of the temples well toward the corners of the eyes is advisable. It will produce the smooth temples of youth and also will remove crows' feet.

THE JAWS – Deep, firm rubbing of the muscles of the jaw will develop these muscles. The jaws will then become rounder and a more youthful appearance will result. I practice all of my exercises for facial rejuvenation daily, as I lie in bed very early in the morning, before I get up.

The mental attitude is a most important factor because if you have made up your mind to succeed in “getting young again,” you will follow my example and, make persistent, determined efforts to succeed. Then improvement will surely result. In all exercises, results depend on you.

Skincare - A Foundation for Beauty

In my role as a beauty consultant I am constantly surprised by the number of people who, when asked about their skincare routine, simply don't have one!

If more people followed the basic skincare routine I have laid out below, there would be less people who need to seek specialist advice for, for example, a special occasion such as a wedding, party, or even just for day-to-day skincare issues.

I usually like to have an initial consultation with a bride at least six months before her wedding for that very reason - if there are lots of skincare issues to be addressed, it can take some time to achieve the glowing complexion they are looking for. And I also think that the run-up to a wedding (which can be as long as you like!) is a great excuse to pamper yourself!

There is a saying -"It takes 21-30 days to develop a habit". If you set yourself a goal of performing a basic skincare routine for 21-30 days, at the end of that time you will find it has become second nature and will be quite hard to break. I have outlined below a simple routine which, once established, takes only a few minutes each day:

Daily:

Cleanse, tone and moisturise twice daily, morning and night. You should be doing this already, but if you are not you will see and feel a difference very quickly.

There are also many supplemental products available which you can use for an extra moisture boost if your skin is dry or for spot treatments if the need is there.

If you have dark circles under the eyes, it is worth investing in a good eye cream. Also, drinking more water will help to plump up the skin cells and reduce the darkness under the eyes.

Weekly:

Exfoliate once/twice a week with an exfoliator containing microscopic polishing beads, not crushed kernels or similar as these can scratch the surface of the skin and may cause inflammation/infection in susceptible individuals, e.g. those with sensitive skin.

Apply a face masque once/twice a week (on a different day to exfoliating) with either a hydrating or a deep cleansing masque, depending on your skin type or current needs. I always recommend keeping both kinds of masque so that if your skin feels like it needs a thorough cleanse you can use the deep cleansing, but if it has a day where it feels dry you can use a hydrating masque for an extra moisture boost.

Monthly:

A monthly facial is good but NOT in the week before a wedding or special event. A facial will bring out the impurities in your skin and you don't want to be fighting off spots and blemishes when you have a big occasion coming up! You will probably feel stressed enough in the run-up to the occasion without having spotty skin to deal with as well!

AND FINALLY...

Don't forget your lips - when you brush your teeth, rub your toothbrush (without toothpaste!) GENTLY over your lips to remove any dry/flaky skin, then apply lip salve or Vaseline.

Once you have established your skincare routine and can see the improvement in your skin, you can start to think about the make-up you want to apply to your newly glowing complexion! I feel another article coming on!

Women Health and Beauty Go Hand In Hand

by: Dana Goldberg

If you want to be beautiful then you need to be healthy, it is as simple as that. Good health means eating right and getting plenty of sleep. It also means getting a good amount of exercise.

Eating for beauty means getting a decent among of fiber in your diet each day. A good among of fiber is 25 grams of it, this is easy to have as part of your daily intake. You can eat a good fiber based cereal in the morning for a simple solution.

Protein is another powerful tool to staying beautiful even as you age. For the best possible diet protein should make up at least 20 percent of all that you eat. The more protein that you eat the more energy you are going to have to get you through your day. This great food source is gong to keep you feeling and looking good in every way.

Exercise is important because it will get the blood really flowing in your body. It is the blood that will bring the essential oxygen to the skin to keep it flushed and fresh looking. It will bring many other nutrients as well, ones that will keep the pesky wrinkles and creases at bay.

Sleep is just as essential as any other part of your daily routine. Sleep is what is going to give you that extra boost every day. Sleep is when you let your batteries recharge. Your immune system and your cells will recharge like they need to while you sleep. If you have been eating right all of those great vitamins and minerals will really pay off while you sleep.

In order to stay pretty and young you need to have a balances life with a good diet, plenty of sleep to rejuvenate your body, and as much exercise as possible. Between these three key things you will be looking good long into your life.

Fashion Trends--Why Do We Care About Them?

So many times we see celebrities wearing certain articles of clothing and accessory items that we decide we just have to have them. But the bigger question is why do we care? Is it that the celebrity in all of us just needs some validation to our current wardrobe or style? Or does it make sense for us to follow new trends to keep our look fresh and updated?

Validating Our Wardrobe

As women, we are constantly being judged on our appearance, clothes, hair, and make-up. It's been said that women can judge a person in three seconds. That's a pretty quick assessment of someone, especially other women. When we see celebrities wearing something that is pleasing to our eyes, we want to duplicate that look because we immediately decided that we like it. If we do not like the trend, or fashion accessory, we will not duplicate the look because it is of no interest to us.

Fresh Looks

A lot of times we look to magazines and the celebrity world to see what the latest styles and trends are going to be so that our wardrobe won't get stale. It's interesting to see how many times styles and trends will come from New York or California, and then sweep across the country over several months. By the time most of us catch up to the trend, a new trend has emerged and the process starts all over again. This is not necessarily bad, because it keeps all of us on our toes to keep an updated look.

Those Who Don't Care

Some women have their own style and fashion cents who really don't care what celebrities or anyone else is wearing. These women tend to stand out and dress differently that the majority and they are happy with their decision to dress and accessorize according to their own tastes.

The great thing about fashion trends is that we can adopt the ones we like and enjoy, while discarding the ones we don't like and don't choose to follow.

The fun thing about trends is that we can see something in a magazine and laugh about it, and then we can be wearing it the next week. If we keep a sense of humor about fashion and trends, we can enjoy all aspects of it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

A Career in Modeling - Fashion

By Dr. Mary E. Waters

Do you dream about a career in modeling? Don’t give up! Your dream can come true, and you too can become a professional fashion model. The lessons learned as a professional model are invaluable. Why is it, you may ask? “Being a model is not just something you do on the runway, but it is a personality that you carry throughout your life.”

No matter what age you enter into this career, you will be able to walk away learning something new that can help you for the rest of your life. If you are a young unmarried person looking for a mate, you will have a good idea of how the right person should treat you. If you are a married person, you will learn how to better take care of yourself and your mate. Someone once said, “You cannot make someone happy unless you are happy yourself.” People need to know that happiness starts from within and extends outward. If you are fulfilled in all areas of your life, you will be happy.

The charm and poise section of the modeling training will give you the confidence you need to make life complete. It will also help you to overcome low self-esteem, if you are struggling with this problem. You will be able to see yourself as a special person. More important, you will begin to feel good about yourself.

A career in modeling takes hard work, dedication and commitment to succeed in the business. The categories you have to choose from are in runway, print and catalog, commercial, petite or plus size. Let’s say, they did not choose you as one of the high fashion models for an assignment in Europe or for the cover of a top magazine, it does not mean that you failed. If this happens, you should move on to the next assignment in life because you are still successful in your own unique way. To build your career, you should start off small then move up to bigger and better things. Through a modeling career, you will learn many lessons that can help you in life.

In the world of high fashion the pay is high. It is usual for a single modeling campaign to pay a million dollars or more. There is a huge amount of money at stake in high fashion modeling and if someone has to get paid, then why not YOU.

Fashion Accessories - How to Update Your Look

Are you interested in updating your appearance, at least in terms of your fashion? If you are, you may not only want to examine the latest in clothing fashion trends, but also the latest trends in fashion accessories. Fashion accessories are rapidly increasing in popularity, particularly in our celebrity-obsessed culture. But many of us still do not know exactly how to use them to our best advantage.

The term "fashion accessories" is very broad and includes a number of products. Just like fashion clothing pieces, accessories come in virtually every size, shape and style under the sun. There are fashion accessories that are designed for children, teens, men, women, petite sized, and plus sized individuals. Below are a few of the major fashion accessory items you might want consider in order to keep your look current and expand your coordination options.

The most well known fashion accessory is of course, jewellery. For teenagers and children, fashion jewelry pieces that are popular often include colourful, oversized pieces, as well as charm necklaces or charm bracelets. For men, a popular piece of jewellery often includes large pendant necklaces, many of which display a cross or another popular or meaningful symbol. As for women, popular pieces of fashion jewelry include watches, earnings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins, and so forth.

Another major fashion accessory that you might want to look at is a new handbag. While purses can also be trendy, it is the handbag that has become a real status symbol and major fashion accessory. They come in a huge array of different styles so it is common to own more than one if your budget allows. In fact, many women out there like to match their fashion accessories, including their purses and handbags, with the clothing that they wear.

Updating your handbag every season can be an easy and relatively inexpensive way to update your whole look. If your wardrobe is filled with classic pieces that flatter your body shape and suit your colouring, then simply choosing a new trendy handbag can instantly bring your look up to the minute.

Travel bags are also considered a fashion accessory, but differ from handbags in that a lot of them are designed for both sexes. A travel bag is generally a small bag that can be used as carry-on luggage for a plane ride, a nappy/diaper bag or a laptop carrying case. It can also be the so called "man bag" that is increasing in popularity all the time. Many major fashion labels also have their own luggage line as well.

Shoes are also a fashion accessory, although many do not necessarily consider them to be. Most often, women's shoes are associated as fashion accessories, as opposed to men's shoes. One of the reasons for this is the amazing array of women's shoe style available, for example: athletic shoes, casual sandals, elegant sandals, flat dress shoes, stilettos, kitten heels, sling backs, mules, pumps and the list goes on. As with handbags and purses, most women own multiple pairs of shoes and aim to coordinate their shoes, especially for work, with the rest of their ensemble. Shoes can make or break an outfit, so think about the type of image you want to portray and make sure your shoes fit with that theme.

Belts are also a major fashion accessory. While for many men and boys, belts are not necessarily a fashion accessory as much as a fashion necessity to hold their pants up; the same isn't true for women. Women's belts come in a number of different sizes, shapes, and styles and virtually every season there is a new "must-have" style. There is everything from casual, crocheted belts to wear with jeans, to elegant, black leather belts as a pair of slimline black trousers for work.

Belts, handbags, purses, travel bags, jewellery and shoes are just a few of the many fashion accessories that you can use to make a good outfit into a great one. Accessories can be real statement pieces and a way to show your personality in an otherwise classic outfit. Fashion accessories are a great way to spice up any wardrobe, especially one that could use an updating.

An Exciting Career With Fashion Merchandising Programs

By Amy Wells

If you love fashion and design, and are considering a career or further education in the field, you may want to take a closer look at fashion merchandising. Fashion merchandising combines various aspects of design, marketing, sales, and even accounting skills. If you like moving at a fast pace with a variety of duties, there are many opportunities in the field of fashion merchandising that a college or education program can prepare you for.

A fashion merchandising education involves marketing fashion lines to retail stores, or even working with the stores themselves to market products directly to consumers. Fashion merchandising is a broad field, and can encompass positions such as fashion buying, where you will select merchandise for a retail store, and event coordination, such as fashion shows. Another growing field is visual merchandising, which involves designing the way the actual clothes and products are displayed, such as window displays and floor layouts.

While the fashion industry as a whole is very competitive, there is a lot of growth and opportunity in the merchandising field, because of the wide variety of assignments available. Although clothes may be manufactured all over the world, many of the sales related aspects take place right at home. This is also the type of career that may involve a variety of different job descriptions over the years, so if you crave change and excitement, it could be a good fit.

The best way to get started in fashion merchandising involves related education. A quality fashion merchandising program will be comprehensive and involve a large variety of courses. In addition to design, you will learn other key concepts, such as marketing and advertising. You will also learn how the fashion business works, and how clothing is manufactured and delivered to retail outlets.

There are a number of choices available when choosing a fashion merchandising education. Many colleges offer fashion merchandising as an associate degree, and some that even offer it as a bachelor's program. There are also many schools that embed fashion merchandising within a more traditional marketing degree, which will give you a broader course of study in basic business.

Other options include attending a strictly fashion design school, which will offer merchandising as one of their programs. In addition, you can also study online, as many of these schools will also offer an online or distance education program, as well.

Choosing which type of school to attend will depend partially on your educational goals. Are you looking to make a quick transition into the field, and want a career-oriented education, or do to have a strong basic business and marketing foundation? Most schools will offer internships in fashion, so you can have an opportunity to get your feet wet in the industry. Whatever type of school you choose, you can be assured that you will be learning a great deal about fashion and the fashion industry, and will be preparing for a fast-paced, quickly evolving career in fashion merchandising.

Why Colour is So Important in Fashion

by: Susan Lockhart

Colour is the first thing other people notice about us, and its impact is immediate and long-lasting. Our fashion colour choices say a lot about the image we are trying to portray and how we feel about ourselves. So what does colour tell people?

Within seconds of meeting you, others will respond to the 'colour messages' flashed by your clothes. Different colours can make people feel a certain way. In fact, it has been determined by medical science that colour can influence the viewer's hormones, blood pressure and body temperature. Colour also has an impact on:

* Your apparent shape;
* Your apparent weight;
* Your apparent personality;
* Your emotions
* Others emotions

Other important considerations are how appropriate the colour is for the location, occasion, time of year, your age and of course, your natural colouring.

We are all influenced by colour every day, whether we realize it or not. If we're having a bad day and not feeling good about ourselves, we tend to automatically choose clothes in dull neutral colours like black, grey or brown because they match how we're feeling. Just as when we're happy and feeling great we will go for something a bit brighter.

Have a look in your wardrobe and see how many different colours you own. Do you have a veritable rainbow of outfits? Or are there just 1 or 2 colours that you wear a variation of all the time? You may find you are stuck in a colour rut. Knowing this, why not experiment with the colours you wear and surround yourself with.

Sometimes it is not just the colour itself, but a combination of colours that create the affect. Colours produce different reactions when used in different fabrics and when put together in different colour combinations. For example, a red jacket worn with a white shirt to a business meeting exhibits confidence and power, but a red jacket worn with a lacy red top may be interpreted as saying, "I'm sexy and exciting and I have other things on my mind besides this business meeting".

Red is actually not the best colour to wear to a job interview as it can set the scene for an uneasy interaction between females. So what colours are appropriate for what situation?

Here is a list of the colours that men respond well to, both socially and professionally.

* Yellow: Holds their attention and keeps them alert; indicates the start of something new

* Yellow-based reds: Energetic colour that keeps conversations going

* True reds: Exhibits confidence

* Burgundy: Reflects class and sophistication and attracts the same type of men

* Mid-range blues: Puts others at ease and allows interactions to go smoothly

* Sky blue: A calming colour

* Navy blue: Signals that you want to be taken seriously; it inspires others to listen to what you have to say and displays that you are trustworthy

* Blue-based reds: Suggests intelligence and femininity

* Red violet: Suggests strength and creativity

It is most important though, to choose colours that are a good fit for your natural colouring. There is no point choosing a colour that suggests creativity and confidence if it also makes you look washed out or sick.

Wearing your best range of colours can have a huge impact on your wardrobe and your confidence. The right colours can make your skin tone appear more even, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dark circles and make you look brighter and healthier. While on the other hand wearing a colour which isn't so good for you, can make you look tired, dull and even ill. A colour analysis with a professional image consultant will show you exactly which range of colours are best for your clothing, makeup and accessories.

In short, our fashion colour choices tell the world a lot about us. Knowing how to use colour to your advantage can change the way you dress and boost your self-confidence.

Tattoos for Women - A New Fashion Accessory?

Tattoos for Women - A New Fashion Accessory - Angelina Jolie TattoosThe popularity of tattoos among women is growing at an unprecedented rate. Over the past ten years, the number of women lining up at doors of tattoo studios has rocketed. Tattoos are now a mainstream fashion accessory for women, occupying the same category as shoes and handbags.

However, tattoos haven't always been popular among women. Fifty years ago, tattoos were almost the exclusive preserve of men. Only ten percent of tattoos belonged to women. And as recently as the 1980's there was a general belief in society that a women who got tattooed was either a criminal, a lesbian or a whore.

These days, things are completely different. The traditional stereotypes and stigmas that surrounded tattoos have been swept away and women have the confidence to wear their tattoos with pride. Women are now responsible for 65% of all tattoos. In fact the market for female tattoos has grown so rapidly that as many as one in four women in the US have a tattoo.

But apart from the change in the number of women who are getting tattooed, the female tattoo market has undergone a couple of significant changes.

1) Tattoo Placement

Previously, women who wanted a tattoo felt the need to position them on a part of their body where they could be kept well hidden. But these days’ women are proud of their tattoo designs and as such are placing them in more visible areas.

The stomach and lower back are two of the most popular areas for tattoo placement. This suggests that women want to have the choice of whether or not to display their designs. It also indicates that most women now have the confidence to select a more sexual placement of their tattoo designs. Other popular locations for female tattoos include ankles and the front of the hips.

2) Tattoo Designs

The type of tattoo designs that women want have also changed. In the past, the few women who got a tattoo opted for something small, discreet and well hidden, such as a name, a small flower or a cute design.

Today, the tattoo designs chosen by women are generally larger and much bolder. Increasingly, women are willing to experiment with the size and style of tattoos. The most popular designs now include shooting stars, fairies, butterflies and unicorn. Larger tribal and celtic designs placed on the lower back are also incredibly popular.

But beyond that, many women now have the confidence to seek out custom tattoo designs that will be unique to them. They're more style conscious than men, so they're no longer happy strolling into the tattoo studio, taking a quick glance through the catalog and becoming another one of the thousands who already wear the same design.

Instead, women tend to take their time when searching for their perfect tattoo. They're more likely to select a custom design, but only after sample consideration of how it will look and make them feel. This allows them to leave the tattoo studio with a design that they can wear with confidence and pride.
